Central Library

The Muthayammal Engineering College Library is an invaluable resource center for students, researchers and faculties of Engineering, Science and Humanities. The Library has over the years built robust collection of over 49311 Documents, 44891 Volumes of books with 12662 Titles, 1370 Back Volumes of journals, 2000 CDs and 1050 theses. The Central library subscribes 130 National journals, 44 International print journals and 8092 e-journals.

The Central library consists of 12475 volumes in Computer Science and 32416 volumes in Engineering and Science. Specifically the Library has a special collection of 5558 volumes in Management Studies.

The Central library subscribes e-resources like ACM journals, Cengage Learning’s (Including Springer, Elsevier, ASME and ASTM). It has a Digital library facility and NPTEL Video courses. The library is well protected with fire extinguishers and CCTV. Apart from Central library each department has a separate library of their own good collection of books pertaining to their field of specialization.

Computerization of Library

The Library uses EasyLib Software package which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operation in the Library. The Easylib consists of modules of acquisition, cataloguing, circulation serials, articles, indexing and OPAC. The database of books available in the library is being updated on day to day basis with details of recently acquired books. Records of the entire Library pattern has also been created in the Easylib package.

Library Facilities

1. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue)

Through this service the member of the library can find out the location of books, title of books, author of the books, publishers and edition of the books

2. Reference

Readers may approach the library staff for information, any assistance in the use of the library collections and services. For special information requirement users may also reach reader’s section in-charge. The Library maintains separate reference collection consisting of subject and reference text, GATE, GRE, GMAT, CAT, TOEFL, TNPSC, UPSC Civil Services books, Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, Handbooks, Bibliography and Personality Development books etc.

3. Reprography

The staff is permitted to take free photocopies in the Library premises. Students are permitted to take photocopy of few pages from the books or journals from the in-house facility.

4. Network

Every library members can read the library resources from their department through our (intranet zone) Digital library IP 192.168.10.250

5. Automated Book Lending

Books can be issued through scanning barcode lable of the book and users Id Card.

6. Book Bank for SC/ST

First year students of SC/ST can take three books from book bank for six months.

7. Digital Knowledge Centre With AC

20 terminals are available for the users to browse the internet through 8Mbps broadband connectivity. Through this internet service students can collect information for their project and research work. The students and staff can browse the required information from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.

When the users are not able to find the books and journals, the library staff assist them to find out the books and journals. The users are informed accordingly in due course of time.

5. Current Awareness Services

Displaying the job opportunities, Personality Development News, Latest collection of books and journals.

Routing of current journals to the students on every Friday

6. Inter Library Loan

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service whereby the Faculty, Students and Staff of Muthayammal Engineering College can borrow books or receive photocopies of documents that are owned by other libraries. MEC Central Library subscribed the following libraries by ILL.

DELNET - DELNET signed an MOU with the All India Council for Technical Education in 2001 to modernize and Network through DELNET libraries of the technical Institutions approved by AICTE in the Country. Member libraries can collect the rare books from DELNET. INDEST - Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Sciences and Technology. Staff and Students can access e-sources of INDEST through static IP addresses of the consortium

BRITISH COUNCIL LIBRARY- Chennai -Students and Staff can access to top quality online resources (e-journals/e-books) borrow rare books/CDS/DVDs and get free internet access from any of the library PCs .

SECTIONS Circulation Section with Bar-coding Technology

Bar-coding is based on coded information. Each accession number is recognized and given separate code. Through this technology the books are circulated in short time and save the time of user. Books can be borrowed on submission of User’s ID. Books are given for 15 days duration. UG students can borrow 3 books and PG Students can borrow 05 books for 15 days on producing their ID.

Periodical and Reading Section:

130 National, 044 International Print Journals, ACM, Indian back Volumes of journals are displayed.. Research scholars use these back volumes for their efficient project.

Digital Library Section:

The Digital library has a collection of documents in organized electronic form available on the Internet or CD Disks. Here students can access magazines article, books, papers, images, sound files and videos.
