Basic purpose of the IQAC:

The IQAC works for ensuring continuous improvement in the entire operations of the institution, and assuring all the stakeholders connected with higher education - namely students, parents, teachers, staff, alumni, employers, funding agencies and society in general. The NAAC advocates establishment of IQAC by every institution to make quality enhancement an integral part of institutional functioning. IQAC is utilized to generate good academic ideas and practices. It seeks to work for planning, implementing, and measuring the outcome of academic and administrative performance of the institution.

Goals and Objectives:

The primary aim of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the academic and administrative performance of the institution. It aims at fulfillment of the mission and the vision of the university in the light of its quality policy.

Functions:

Some of the functions expected of the IQAC are:

1) Development and application of quality benchmarks/parameters for various academic and administrative activities of an institution

2) Dissemination of information on various quality parameters of higher education

3) Organization of workshops, seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles

4) Documentation of the various programmes / activities leading to quality improvement

5) Acting as a nodal agency of the institution for quality-related activities

6) Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to be submitted to NAAC based on the quality parameters.


Internal Quality Assurance Cell (MEC-IQAC)

The MEC - IQAC has been established under the chairmanship of the Principal. The Council is a facilitating and monitoring body to advice on the roles and functions of the IQAC. The composition of MEC – IQAC for the academic year 2016 – 2017 is as follows:

Actions Proposed by MEC-IQAC:

During the current academic year, IQAC proposed intensive efforts to ensure sustainable and qualitative improvement in the following areas:

1. Curricular Aspects

a) To introduce Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as Autonomy is granted by UGC from the academic year 2016-17 – applicable for 1st year students
b) To identify and deliver the content beyond the syllabus for the batches affiliated to Anna University, Chennai – applicable for 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students during the academic year 2016-17
c) To review the academic calendar of the college
d) To monitor the question paper setting and evaluation process for internal tests, model exams and assignments in coordination with department course committees and advisory committees
e) To ensure that the students do quality projects and involve in the development of product/prototype
f) To promote better industry-institution interaction
