The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was started in the year 2000 with an intake of 60 students. Over the years the department has steadily grown and currently the student's intake is 120. Along with B.E., the department also offers two M.E., degree programme in Power Electronics & Drives and Power Systems Engineering.

The Department has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi and permanently affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The well qualified and experienced faculties of this department are committed to achieve excellence in academic programs. The department has good infrastructure with well equipped laboratories and an exclusive departmental library. The department periodically conducts value added courses and training programs for students to improve their technical skills in theory and practice. The department also runs the IEI students Chapter.

The Department has research centre approved by Anna University Chennai to do research leading to Ph.D. The Department has sufficient research supervisors in variety of fields. The research centre facilitates funded projects from DST, MODROBS, AICTE etc. and consultancy projects. The research centre has good record of publications.
